Check Yourself
The first thing you need to do is check yourself to see if the reason your career is stalled is because of the person looking back at you in the mirror. Often times we engage in self-destructive behaviors that quietly sabotage our own success. Ask yourself “Is my attitude, work ethic, or other behaviors holding me back?”
Talk It Out
If you have analyzed your own attitude and behavior and determined that it’s not you, it may be a good idea to share your concerns with your manager.
What is the biggest obstacle that Black people face in the workplace?
Tell them that you are feeling stuck in your career and ask for their opinion.
But be forewarned, chances are your manager may give you some feedback that you may not want to hear, but if you’re serious about kicking your career into gear you’ll lay your ego aside and welcome the advice.
